Allen Bailey, a defensive end who spent eight of his ten NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, has died at 37. His brother told TMZ that Bailey’s body was found Tuesday in his Florida home, and no cause of death was immediately released.
The Chiefs drafted Bailey out of the University of Miami in 2011, and he rewarded them with eight steady seasons, recording 207 tackles and 19.5 sacks in 102 games. He finished his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019 and 2020. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the news “makes you sick” and called Bailey one of his favorite players, while Patrick Mahomes remembered him as a glue guy who “made everything go.”
For those of us here on the Suncoast who follow the NFL, Bailey’s story is a reminder of the quiet contributors who hold a team together and the players behind the highlights. Our thoughts are with his family, his former teammates, and the Chiefs organization.
