A mother and her two children were heading east on Interstate 10 near Macclenny around 11 p.m. Sunday when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone opened fire into their car. A 6-year-old was shot in the arm and an 11-year-old was injured by bullet fragments. Both children were treated and are recovering, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
What investigators are focusing on now is how the shooting started. Deputies say the family may have been followed from their Macclenny home onto the interstate, which means the danger may have begun in a residential neighborhood rather than on the highway itself. No suspects have been publicly identified, and detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward.
