Residents on Elmira Boulevard in Port Charlotte are sounding the alarm about speeding after a truck was caught on video racing down the street and knocking over two mailboxes. For William Pearson, it’s personal: his mailbox has now been hit three times, and his bigger concern is his three children who cross the street after school. He says the street doesn’t even have speed limit signs posted, and he wants that changed.
Neighbor Thomas Jones says the speeding has made cycling and walking feel dangerous, forcing him and his wife to ride defensively just to stay safe on their own road. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says residents can report speeding concerns and other non-emergency issues directly to the agency, giving neighbors a formal channel to push for enforcement.
For a community of walkers, cyclists, and kids on bikes, residential speeding is one of those issues that hits every block eventually. Have you dealt with speeding on your street? Let us know how you handled it.
