Saturday was a landmark day for Florida sports fans. The Rays opened the evening by beating Cleveland 7-3 to even the ALCS at two games apiece, powered by Jonathan Aranda’s three RBIs and a two-run homer from Yandy Diaz. Game 5 is set for Sunday night in Cleveland, and Game 6 is guaranteed at Tropicana Field on Monday, giving Suncoast fans a possible home playoff game to plan around.
On the ice, the Lightning erased a 2-0 deficit against Vancouver behind two goals from Nikita Kucherov and won 4-2. College football brought even more: Miami beat Florida State 43-35 in double overtime after FSU forced OT with a 75-yard score, Florida upset No. 7 Texas 27-17 on the road for its first win over an AP Top-10 opponent away from home since 2012, and USF knocked off Kent State 29-2 after CJ Hicks returned a fumble 96 yards to ignite a 29-point run. The Seminoles were the only Florida team to fall among the six in action.
The weekend doesn’t stop there. The Rays play Game 5 Sunday night, and if they can take it, they’ll bring the series back to St. Pete with a real shot at closing it out. Which Florida team’s Saturday win meant the most to you? Let us know on our Facebook page.
