Dakin Dairy Farms in Myakka City is wrapping up its 3rd Annual Harvest Festival, and if you haven’t made the drive out to Betts Road yet, you’ve got two weekends left. The festival runs October 17, 18, 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is just $20 per person. Kids 5 and under are free, and parking won’t cost you anything, which makes it one of the more affordable family outings around Sarasota this fall.
Your admission covers plenty: moo train rides, a corn maze, live cow milking demonstrations, touch-a-tractor and a hayride where you get to feed the Holstein cows. A few of the flashier attractions run on extra tickets, including calf cuddling, the pumpkin cannon, the apple launcher, paintball and Power Wheels rides. So bring a little extra if your kids have their eyes on launching produce or taking a spin.
The farm market stays open throughout the festival too, which means you can head home with fresh milk, ice cream and other dairy products straight from the source. It’s a working dairy farm turned fall destination, and it’s a great reminder of the agriculture happening right here in our corner of the Suncoast. The festival closes October 25, so plan accordingly.
