A Bradenton man and former Florida State football player is facing serious charges after what troopers describe as a high-speed run through Hillsborough County in the early hours of Oct. 10. According to a probable cause affidavit, a sheriff’s deputy spotted a black Dodge Durango speeding near State Road 60 and South Maydell Drive around 2 a.m. When law enforcement moved in, the driver accelerated instead of stopping. Troopers say the SUV ran a red light at U.S. 301, struck a curb while avoiding a crash, and later reached speeds above 150 miles per hour on Interstate 75.
The Durango was eventually found disabled on Big Bend Road. According to the affidavit, the driver fled on foot before being taken into custody. Chauncey Alvoid Kennon now faces charges of aggravated fleeing to elude, false imprisonment and resisting an officer without violence. The case combines a recognizable college football name with allegations of extreme speeds on public roads, which is why it is drawing attention well beyond Hillsborough County.
What may resonate most with listeners is the account from a woman found near the search area. She told troopers she had been riding in the SUV with Kennon after leaving Ybor City, and that she asked him more than 10 times to stop and let her out because she was scared. That detail sits at the heart of the false imprisonment charge. As the case moves through the courts, we will continue following it here on the Suncoast.
