The UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Sarasota County are celebrating twenty years of their annual plant sale, and Saturday’s event at Twin Lakes Park may be the biggest reason yet to set an early alarm. On October 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., roughly 2,700 plants will be on offer at 6600 Clark Road, every one of them propagated by volunteers. Admission is free and no tickets or registration are required.
The selection covers the full range of what works here: native species, ornamentals, groundcovers, succulents, cacti, perennials, herbs, and butterfly garden favorites. Since October is Native Plant Month, it’s a natural moment to think about swapping thirsty landscaping for plants built for Florida’s sandy soil and salt air. Master Gardeners and Extension staff will be available all morning to answer questions and share information about classes, programs, and services.
Organizers suggest bringing a wagon or cart, and purchases can be made with cash, checks, or charge cards. Proceeds benefit the Master Gardeners Chapter of the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, supporting volunteer education and outreach throughout the county. What’s the first plant you’d like to add to your yard this fall?
