Sunday is shaping up as one of the best beach days we’ve had in weeks. Expect mostly sunny skies, highs in the mid-80s, and light east winds that shift northwest through the afternoon. The rip current risk is low, surf heights stay at 1 foot or less, and there is zero lightning risk. No thunderstorms anywhere in the forecast, which is rare for late September on the Suncoast.
Boaters get a calm window too. Seas stay at 1 foot or less through Monday, so it’s a good stretch to get out on the bay or run the Gulf. The pattern changes Tuesday, when scattered afternoon thunderstorms return and stick around through Wednesday. If you have outdoor plans midweek, plan for an early start.
On the tropics: the weakened remnants of Tropical Storm Fay and a low-pressure system near Bermuda pose no threat to our area. Nothing is tracking toward the Gulf Coast. If you have friends or family up north who text you every time a storm gets a name, you can tell them we’re fine.
