A 31-year-old Georgia man was found dead behind an abandoned Red Lobster in Albany, and investigators are now treating the case as a homicide. Jarrod Lamar Holden was located near a dumpster after police responded to a “man down” call. He was wearing jeans and mismatched socks, no shirt, with his head hanging off a mattress and clothing scattered nearby. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
The case shifted when crews moved the body and found a hole in his head. Homicide detectives were called in. A nearby homeowner told officers about regular foot traffic in and out of that lot and described a woman in a yellow shirt seen on September 21st. When questioned, the woman said she hadn’t seen Holden in about a week. She also told investigators he had recently been released from prison.
That detail raises bigger questions about what happens to people reentering society with limited support. Albany police have not released additional information about suspects or a possible motive. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.
