The School District of Manatee County has connected OpenEye cameras to its existing Centegix safety platform, giving teachers a one-button way to send live video to first responders during an emergency. Staff already wear Centegix badges on their lanyards. Pressing the button now routes real-time camera feeds from inside the school to police and paramedics, who can see conditions on the ground before they arrive.
Privacy controls are central to how the system works. Cameras only stream during a staff-initiated emergency, and the feed stops automatically once the situation is under control. According to the district, the OpenEye integration comes at no additional cost, building on security measures Centegix already provided. The district serves more than 53,000 students across 67 schools in Bradenton and the surrounding communities.
District leaders say feedback from staff has been overwhelmingly positive, and Centegix leadership credited the partnership for delivering the capability without new taxpayer expense. Technology alone doesn’t replace training or staffing, but faster awareness for first responders is a tangible change. How the system performs over a full school year will be worth watching.
