Kenneth and Erin Ezell run Salty Dog Boiled Peanuts in Charleston, South Carolina, but the real attraction might be what they sell it from. Their storefront is a fully drivable 1923 Ford Model T pickup, original down to the four-cylinder engine and the hickory-spoked wheels. Kenneth restored antique vehicles right out of high school, so when the peanut business took off, the truck was already waiting.
The couple cooks by hand, maintains the truck themselves, and posts up wherever the day takes them. There’s no app and no line-moving system, just locations shared on Facebook, Instagram, and a text list. Kenneth says they wanted a slower pace of life and realized they could work when they wanted, at their own pace. The truck does the marketing. People stop to ask about it, and by then the peanuts are already in the bag.
One regular, a 91-year-old named Buddy, came back recently for a free birthday ride. That story says more about the business than any sales number could.
