Florida’s college football programs put on a show this weekend, and Tampa Bay’s baseball team made a little history of its own. The Gators routed Campbell 52-3 in Gainesville, powered by two punt-return touchdowns from Vernell Brown III. USF delivered the drama of the weekend, winning 28-24 at Army when Michael Van Buren hit Joshua Porter for a 38-yard score in the final minute. Miami rounded out the action with a 77-7 rout of Florida A&M, building a 77-0 lead before the game was shortened.
Up the road in Tampa, the Rays became the first team in Major League Baseball to clinch a playoff spot, capping it off with a walk-off win Friday night. They followed that up with a 3-2 win over Houston on Saturday, extending their AL East lead to four games with Junior Caminero and the lineup clicking at the right time.
