An Oregon music teacher is in custody after a grand jury indicted him on charges of first-degree rape, sexual abuse, kidnapping, and providing marijuana to a minor. Derek Douglas Reeder, 44, was arrested Thursday in Oregon City. Court records say he met the child victim in the summer of 2023 while he was employed at a nonprofit organization, and that he used direct messages on Instagram and text messaging to communicate with her before the abuse took place.

Reeder is also the owner of Slinky Strings, a guitar studio in downtown Oregon City that advertises lessons for all ages. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help, stating they believe there may be additional victims. Reeder is currently being held without bail. Anyone with information is urged to contact the tip line at 503-723-4949.
