Wednesday on the Suncoast means a mix of sun, scattered showers, and some serious wind. Isolated storms could pop up before noon, with thunderstorms mainly over inland areas during the afternoon. West winds are gusting up to 25 mph, and the heat index is climbing into the triple digits. If you’re planning time outdoors, stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.
The biggest concern today is the water. The rip current risk is rated HIGH, which means the Gulf currents are especially dangerous. Swimmers should stay near lifeguard stations and never swim alone. Boaters also need to be cautious — the forecast shows west winds at 15 to 20 knots with seas between 2 and 6 feet through Friday. The National Hurricane Center reports no tropical cyclone formation expected in the next seven days, giving us a breather during peak season.
