A new survey from Zenoti has uncovered a startling trend in how Americans are prioritizing their beauty spending. According to the poll of 1,000 adults, 46% would be willing to go into debt to maintain their beauty routines. Even more striking, 22% of respondents say they’ve cut back on groceries to afford beauty products and services. The survey also found that 33% of people blame workplace stress for increasing their wellness spending.
Consumers are adapting to tighter budgets by getting creative. At-home beauty treatments are on the rise, with 44% of people doing their own facials and 43% coloring their hair at home. Others are using buy-now-pay-later services for salon visits or trading down to more affordable service providers. Sarah Simonelli, a spokesperson for Zenoti, notes that people aren’t willing to sacrifice their self-care because it’s tied to their self-esteem. However, they’re becoming more practical about how they spend their beauty dollars.
