Local leaders are stepping in; Punta Gorda city council members and Charlotte County commissioners are drafting letters to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, calling for stronger enforcement measures and a consent order to address the issue. Interestingly, residents aren’t pushing to shut down the landfill; instead, they hope for it to operate without becoming a nuisance to those living nearby.
