Charlotte County is set to turn heads—and perhaps wallets—starting April 1 with a new school zone speed enforcement program. After finishing up their warning phase at the end of March, any driver zooming through designated school zones at over 10 mph past the speed limit will receive a $100 citation in the mail. Yes, you read that right; your failure to ease off the gas could cost you.
The county is rolling out this initiative to improve safety around schools, and it’s kicking off with cameras situated at nine local schools. The cameras aren’t just for show; they’ll only operate during specific hours when kids are arriving or departing. Expect those to be 30 minutes before breakfast programs and wrapping up 30 minutes after the final bell rings.
So, if you think you can get away with speed in front of the kids, think again! Those cameras will be watching, so it’s probably best to stay on the right side of 20 mph—because nobody wants to add an unintentional school fine to their budget! Have you checked your speed lately?
