Burn Ban in Effect for New Year’s Celebrations in Charlotte County
As residents prepare to ring in the New Year, Charlotte County officials are reminding the public that a countywide burn ban remains in effect due to dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfires.
Officials warn that fireworks, sparklers, and other open flames can quickly ignite dry grass and brush, threatening homes, neighborhoods, and lives. During the burn ban, all outdoor open burning is prohibited, including the use and discharge of fireworks and sparklers.
Residents are urged to follow local regulations and choose safer ways to celebrate. Attending a permitted commercial fireworks display or participating in organized community events are encouraged alternatives. Families can also mark the occasion with flameless options such as glow sticks, silly string, confetti poppers, or bubbles.
County officials thank residents for their cooperation in helping keep the community safe as the New Year begins. Anyone who sees smoke or fire is asked to call 911 immediately.
