An investigation led to the arrest of a 15-year-old Charlotte High School student after deputies received a tip regarding a school threat.

On the morning of Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that indicated a 15-year-old student was planning violence at a Charlotte County school. Detectives made contact with the student, identified as Mylana L M Vlasek-Mays (4/30/2010), and began an investigation.

“These reports are extremely serious and will always be investigated thoroughly. When someone threatens our schools, it impacts every student, every teacher, and every family. We will never tolerate threats of violence in Charlotte County Public Schools. The student has been suspended and will face a recommendation for expulsion. My commitment—and our district’s commitment—is to ensure our classrooms remain safe places where students can focus on learning and parents can trust their children are protected.”

Charlotte County Public Schools Superintendent, Mark Vianello

The initial investigation found probable cause for Vlasek-Mays’ arrest and immediate removal from the campus. She is being held at the Charlotte County Jail, pending transfer to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

“I have said it time and time again, we do not tolerate threats to any of our schools in Charlotte County. This young lady made a poor choice, but thanks to the immediate and appropriate work of my detectives, she was located and taken into custody without incident. No child should have to fear going to school, and we will continue to take the necessary actions to keep the campuses safe. We mean it when we say, ‘zero tolerance’.”

Sheriff Bill Prummell

This remains an open and active investigation, and more details will be provided as they are made available.
