Bloodhound Training Exercise Underway in Venice This Week
VENICE POLICE DEPARTMENT, VENICE, FLORIDA
VENICE – Residents may notice law enforcement activity in downtown Venice this week, but there’s no cause for concern. From August 18–22, the True Blue Bloodhounds and their handlers will be conducting training exercises throughout the city.
The scent-tracking canines are part of a specialized program that supports law enforcement agencies in search-and-rescue operations, missing person cases, and criminal investigations. Training in real-world environments like downtown streets and public facilities helps prepare the dogs and their handlers for situations they may face in the field.
On Thursday, August 21, the training will take place at AdviniaCare of Venice senior living, 950 Pinebrook Rd. During the exercise, citizens will also see law enforcement vehicles staged nearby at Pinebrook Park. Officials emphasize this is a planned training session and not an emergency.
The True Blue Bloodhounds are nationally recognized for their scent-detection abilities. Unlike many working dogs, bloodhounds are bred specifically for trailing a single individual’s scent, even over long distances and challenging terrain. Their training requires controlled, realistic scenarios to sharpen those skills.
Authorities are encouraging residents to share this information with friends and neighbors to avoid unnecessary alarm. “This is for training and education,” officials noted, “so no need to hound us with calls—we’re already tracking on them!”
