In a unanimous vote on Tuesday, The Venice Planning Commission rejected a Comprehensive Plan Amendment that would have created a new and unique “mixed use transitional” future land use designation in North Venice.
The property, a 214-acre parcel north of Laurel Road, was annexed into the city in 2019 and has a Sarasota County Rural future land use designation.
Commissioners said the new land use designation allowed too much opportunity for incompatible uses.
Incompatibility of both a industrial and residential mix of development in the area of Salt Creek was a concern of the commissioners.
