Normally the opening of a new WalMart isn’t news except to WalMart but this may be different. The mass retailer opened a new WalMart Market store on North Tamiami Trail today and residents say they hope it may be a harbinger of more revitalization in the North Trail area. It’s made a good start. Ninety-two jobs were created and the building replaces a rundown derelict that formerly housed a Winn-Dixie supermarket but which has been vacant for over two years. WalMart Market is different from the company’s usual stores in that it only sells food. That makes it the only grocery store in the Newtown area.
