While the council members talked about the consolidation, but took no action. The Herald-Tribune reports City Manager Ed Lavallee says the county is deferring to the city on the decision of yes or no on consolidating the city and county fire departments. The representative of the International Brotherhood of Firefighters voiced concern that not all Venice Fire Department employees will have jobs in a county merger-the chief and deputy chief, and two administrative people. One resident telling council memebrs the issue should be decided by voters in a referendum.
