A 73-year-old Venice resident died yesterday monring when their vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. According to the FHP, the driver was southbound in the left lane of U.S. 41 at West Baffin Road when the 2001 Toyota Highlander left the roadway, entered the median and struck a tree. The Toyota then continued south back out of the median and came to rest on the highway facing southeast. Debris from the Toyota and the tree struck a Nissan Altima driving in the northbound lanes, causing $2,000 in damages but no injuries. The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
