Authorities are searching for a dump truck driver that was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 75 Monday night that seriously injured a Sarasota man.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol: Timothy Canary, a driver for P&J Towing, was on the scene of a disabled vehicle in the southbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 211, just north of the Fruitville Road exit.

The tow truck had its overhead yellow lights and rear ground lights activated. Canary was outside the vehicle wearing reflective clothing and was attempting to load a vehicle on the back of the wrecker. A southbound dump truck failed to move away from the shoulder of the road, and the right front of the vehicle struck Canary.
The dump truck failed to stop and fled southbound on I-75.
Canary, who was seriously inured, was taken to Doctors Hospital in Sarasota.
