Residents say a tornado is to blame for damages suffered in North Port last night, but the National Weather Service will determine later today whether it was a small twister of down burst winds. Whatever it was, 15 homes were damaged and one family had to spend the night with relatives due to the degree of damage to their home. The damage was concentrated in the Holiday Park and Highland Ridge communities. Although the National Weather Service had been monitoring throughout the evening, inclement weather was not evident on the radar.
