Shop with a Cop

Christ­mas and the hol­i­days will soon be upon us and the local Wal­mart stores and Char­lotte County Sheriff’s Office will once again host Shop with a Cop.

Some 80 to 100 chil­dren from sec­ond through fifth grades will be selected by school coun­selors and will be paired with local law enforce­ment and cor­rec­tions offi­cers. Their selec­tion is designed to develop pos­i­tive rela­tion­ships between local youth and the officers. The Engle­wood event will take place Dec. 12 at Walmart. The chil­dren will each be sup­plied with $100 gift cards to pur­chase gifts for their fam­ily mem­bers and them­selves. A gift-wrapping table will be set up to assist them in wrap­ping their cho­sen gifts. In addi­tion to dona­tions by Wal­mart, the CCSO still needs to raise $3,000 more to reach its goal.
