As expected, bus fares are going up significantly for one-way riders in Sarasota County. Fares are increasing across the board for most classes of riders of the SCAT system beginning October third. Regular one-way rides will jump from seventy-five cents to a dollar-twenty-five, senior fares from thirty-five cents to sixty.Rates for most passes will jump, too. Transit officials warning of significant cutbacks in service levels that would have been necessary without those fare hikes.
