No more questions about whether Sarasota will be led by an elected mayor or city commission. Commissioners again voted down a proposal to have a popularly-elected mayor run the city. Last night’s vote was three to two against a concept that’s come up several times before. It would also have done away with the position of City Manager. A number of citizens spoke in favor of the elected-mayor concept, noting that Sarasota has gone through three City Managers in the last five years.
