Sarasota Police say one of their officers used a taser twice during a fight yesterday at Sarasota High School. Police say resource officer Sheldon Cantrell fired the device first at a 16-year old involved in the fight in the school’s East Cafe. The Herald-Tribune reports the device hit the student’s backpack. Cantrell fired his taser a second time at an 18-year old student who was trying to get at the 16-year old. He was hit in the back. The 16-year old’s charged with battery, the 18-year old with obstruction-resisting without violence. Two other students involved in the fight will be disciplined by the school district.
