With the hurricane season starting Saturday, Sarasota County emergency management officials are urging residents to act now to ensure the safety of families and property. The Herald-Tribune reports they’ve started a new campaign called “The first 72 are on You,” that residents should be prepared to be self sufficient for at least 72 hours after a storm. This year could be worse than 2012, with forecasts calling for an active to very active season. Residents are urged to know if they are at risk of storm surge and to know their hurricane evacuation routes. For more information, visit www.scgov.net and click on “Evacuation Zones.”
