Sarasota County commissioners have approved spending $19.5-million for a new emergency radio system. The current system used by the county sheriff’s and fire departments is nearing the end of its’ useful life. The Herald-Tribune reports it’s part of a $40-million project with Manatee County to improve the communication systems used by first responders in both counties. It will take about 2-years to design and build the new system which will serve 32-agencies with 4800 radios in Sarasota and 35-agencies with 3300 radios in Manatee counties.
