About 85 top earners in the Sarasota Sheriff’s department have a bit more in their pockets over the past few years.

That’s because Sheriff’ Tom Knight said in the past two years, he’s given about 300 thousand dollars in raises to the 85, which amounts to about a five percent increase. The Herald-Tribune reported last week that the biggest raise, some 19 thousand dollars, went to the assistant IT person, from 52 thousand 500 dollars a year to 71 thousand 600 dollars a year. Knight said the fact that corrections officers didn’t get a raise was based on what those in similar jobs in other counties were paid. They’ll see a raise from just over two percent to just over four percent.
