It was a lack of copper that knocked out the phones in Port Charlotte over the weekend.

Century Link told the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office yesterday that the theft of copper wiring cut phone lines for about 100 of its customers. The company said somebody got to a phone box and took the copper wire, silencing land lines south of Hillsborough, North of Veterans, east of Theresa and west of Atwater. Century Link said customers should have temporary service in a few days, until they can permanently replace the copper. If you know anything bout the thefts, call Crimestoppers.
