In Punta Gorda, a move to put a trained paramedic on every fire truck. Firefighters say the ability to provide medical treatment the moment a fire truck arrives can often make the difference in life or death. Now, they’re hopeful a new decision by Charlotte County Commissioners will mean a paramedic goes along on every fire call. In addition to the ambulance that’s already provided within Punta Gorda city limits, the fire department will begin training its personnel in paramedic duties, too. Firefighters hoping to begin receiving state certification as early as next month.
