Public safety officials say they’re going to ask the Sarasota County Commission to declare a State of Emergency today in the wake of Tropical Storm Debby. Rising levels in rivers and along beaches continue to present a major problem even as the storm moves off at a very slow rate toward northwest Florida. In addition to damage already caused, officials say they’re worried about ground being so saturated that tree roots become loose and cause trees to sag or fall onto power lines and other obstacles. Beach erosion also a real possibility now.
