A North Port family is suing the city for delays in emergency response that it says caused a death. Fifty-five-year-old Brian Wood died in 2009 after a crash disabled his truck and left him seriously injured in a desolate rural area. Now, Wood’s family is suing the city of North Port for wrongful death. The family claiming negligence by North Port law enforcement led to Wood’s death. They say it took multiple phone calls and eighteen hours after a witness reported seeing Wood injured outside his crashed truck before officers arrived at the site of the accident.
