It’s called the NPPD Tips app. It’s free for iPhone and Android devices. According to the Herald-Tribune, the goal is to make it easy for residents to send anonymous tips to the police. It’s part of something called “Tip 411,” a national program to connect younger people to law enforcement. Does it work? North Port PD’s checked in with other law enforcement agencies that are already using the program, and they report a 400% increase in crime tips. You can download the app free at the Google Play or iTunes App stores. There’s also more information on the program at www.cityofnorthport.com.
