A North Port resident and former law enforcement officer was arrested Monday night for making threats with a handgun in a Port Charlotte restaurant. 47-year-old Walter Kaufman, Jr., pulled the gun at the Applebee’s on U.S. 41 after another patron asked him to stop giving his server a hard time. Kaufman threatened to shoot the patron, the manager called police, and Kaufman was arrested. He is being held on $100,000 bond. Kaufman is an employee with Charlotte County Utilities.
