If you spotted smoke in the sky off Yorkshire Street Near I-75 in east North Port around ten this morning, it was there on purpose. North Port Fire Rescue was conducting a full-scale Prescribed Burn exercise ahead of the coming fire season. The drill was conducted in association with the Florida Forest Service. The exercise was based on a mutual aid response to a wildfire which was actually a 110 acre prescribed burn managed by the Forest Service. Fire units from North Port, Sarasota County, Charlotte County, Englewood, Nokomis, and the Forest Service participated.
