North Port officials plan to continue pushing Sarasota Memorial Hospital to build a hospital in the city despite a Tuesday meeting that ended with no promises. The hospital system recently announced construction of a new facility in Venice, which already has a 312-bed hospital while North Port has no acute care hospital despite being Sarasota County’s largest and fastest-growing city, according to the Herald-Tribune. The two parties did agree to quarterly meetings to improve healthcare in North Port, but Sarasota Memorial says that city’s physician-to-population ratio remains too low to open an acute care hospital at this time.
