New protests over the location of Sarasota parking meters. A few weeks ago, we reported that complaints from unhappy downtown merchants had gotten parking meters there uprooted and removed. They were re-located near the Sarasota County Courthouse and Jail. But they’re just as unpopular there. Now, some of the 271 volunteers who work with various programs at the jail say they shouldn’t have to pay to park after six P-M and that paying a meter basically means they have to pay to volunteer. The city has basically told them, “Too bad”. So now, some of those volunteers say they’ll take up their parking meter complaints with the count instead.
