A new housing development’s been given a green light in South Sarasopta County. Sarasota County Commissioners today said yes to the Villages of Manasota Beach development. It will be next to West Villages in North Port, and the Herald-Tribune reports it will have over 1500 residences on its 782 acres. The area’s seen a lot of new subdivisions being planned to meet the demand of baby boomers who are attracted to areas like Venice, Englewood and North Port to pick a retirement home. About a third of the land will be preserved as open space.
