New charges today against a driver who police say caused a three-vehicle accident in Sarasota five months ago. 25-year-old Matthew Houmes of Sarasota has been free on bond. Now, police are saying Houmes was high on heroin at the time of the accident November 21st at Beneva and Fruitville Roads. Several people were seriously injured when he allegedly swerved in front of a SCAT bus and another car. Eight new felonies now filed against Houmes after forensics lab reports reportedly said he not only had heroin but also cocaine and prescription meds in his system at the time.
