One victim, one suspect, one witness — and not much more than one day in court. With that, a Sarasota County jury convicted Roy Couran of murdering a man in Newtown in January. The lone eyewitness, following some initial confusion, testified that it was Couran who killed 34-year-old Jeff King with a shotgun on January 25th. The jury deliberated about two-and-a-half hours before finding Couran guilty of second degree murder. Couran was immediately handed the mandatory sentence of life in prison. Investigators now looking for a second man who was also reportedly involved.
