A three-hour standoff in South Venice yesterday ended with Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies arresting a convicted felon they say is responsible for a crime spree that started Saturday in Manatee County. Detectives say Jason Wayo committed at least two home invasion robberies and stole four vehicles that he crashed or abandoned along the way. He was shot in a scuffle with two men who tried to stop him and ended his run by barricading himself in a home in the 3600 block of Roslyn Road in South Venice around 1:30 p.m. Negotiators convinced Wayo to surrender about 4:30 p.m. Authorities say Wayo has 14 prior felony convictions, and has only been on the streets from his last prison stay for about six month.
