It’s been two years since the BP oil spill in the Gulf and Mote Marine Laboratory is still responding. Details from Darrell Moody…

Friday marked the two year anniversary since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sank into the Gulf of Mexico, setting off the worst oil spill in US history. Mote’s oil response has been a team effort of scientists and researchers studying its effects on marine species including corals, dolphins and sharks. Researchers at Mote say that oil mixed with dispersants has had a devestating effect on coral larvae and just last week state scientists released a report identifying sick and diseased fish populations around areas hit hardest by the spill.
