Say goodbye to a true legend of baseball, who has passed away after living the last 47 years of his life in Sarasota. Family members say William “Curly” Williams will be remembered at a visitation Sunday. Williams was a power-hitting third baseman and shortstop who began his career in the Negro Leagues, played for decades, but never made it to the Majors. Williams ended his career in 1963, then moved to Sarasota where he worked as a pathology assistant in the Sarasota County medical examiner’s office. William “Curly” Williams, ballplayer, gone at 86.
