Judge George Reynolds is trying to come up with a new map for Florida’s 40 state senate districts.
Voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2010 requiring compact political districts that aren’t drawn to benefit parties or incumbents. Legislators have drawn two previous maps, which have subsequently been thrown out.

The court hearing, which began in Tallahassee on Monday, could last several days, presenting rival maps and proposals. The state Supreme Court recently approved a new map for congressional districts.
