He robbed a jewelry store then fled — in a taxi. That’s what authorities say happened at Willis Jewelers on Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda. Employees of the store flagged down a passing Punta Gorda police officer and told him the store had just been robbed by a man who fled in a white Town Car belonging to Charlotte County Taxi. The officer very quickly located the taxi, made a traffic stop and within minutes, store employees had identified 22-year-old Joshua Roberts of Port Charlotte as the thief. They said he was looking at a gold necklace valued at almost seven thousand dollars when he ran from the store and fled in the taxi. Roberts now charged with grand theft and a probation violation.
